Time is really flying! One week ago I began blogging about my preparations for Maastricht. There have not been too many developments in the last week, but I do have a few updates.
Yesterday I subscribed to kamernet.nl, a housing website used by the Dutch to find housing all over Netherlands. I ahve been keeping an eye on the site for the last month or so, looking at rooms that might interest me in terms of price, location and savviness. I was piddling around the site yesterday morning and found a newly posted room that would suit me well. So I applied and heard back from the landlord today. We have a skype date lined up for tomorrow so that we can talk more about the possibility. I am looking forward to meeting her and crossing my fingers that it goes well!
Today I received notice from the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience (FPN) with more information on the introduction week. I was surprised to see that activities and orientation do not start until September 5 (I had originally thought they would start the 1st!). So I have a few days in between my visit to Slovenia and orientation to catch my breath and explore Maastricht. That should be nice!
Meanwhile, I have been working on getting everything in line for submitting my documents necessary to obtain my residence permit. I have to send in my passport and proof of financial means by the end of the month in order to get approved for a residence permit. Unfortunately I could not just renew the one I received last time I was there.
I ordered my Lebara SIM card and am having it sent to me by a friend who lives in Netherlands. When I receive it, I will know my new Dutch phone number, which will make it easier to communicate when I arrive!
Besides that, I am getting more and more excited each day. Its starting to feel more and more real. Preliminary packing is already underway - the guest bedroom has exploded with various articles sorted into piles of what goes home and what goes with me to Netherlands. I still have a lot more sorting to do!
67 more days to go...yikes, still so much to do!
